Military time is a way of telling time used by the Armed Forces, emergency services and other groups that use 24-hour time. It is a more efficient way to report and record events and tasks, as telling time on the 12-hour clock can be confusing if someone is working on multiple different shifts. Military time uses four-digits for each hour in a day. The first two digits are used for the hour (ranging from 00 to 23), and the last two digits represent the minutes (00 to 59). So 1430 would mean 2:30 PM, and 2359 would mean 11:59 PM. You can also see that 0001 would be 12:01 AM.

Military minutes are measured from 00 to 59 rather than from 01 to 60 on a traditional clock, because that gives an extra minute of accuracy for scheduling purposes. This means that when it's exactly 15 minutes past the hour in regular time, it's 15 mins past in military too - instead of 16 mins past like on a traditional clock.
